The Director of the
Pediatric Radiology Section in the Department of Radiology at The University of
Texas Medical Branch (UTMB) is
Dr.Leonard E.Swischuk. Dr. Swischuk is a world renowned pediatric
radiologist.
This Section has three other
radiologists who work in Pediatric Radiology part time. They all are fellowship
trained by Dr. Swischuk and all are in academic programs. The individuals
involved are Drs. Diana Palacio, Siddharth Jadhav, and Alberto Hernandez. Dr.
Palacio is Director of Pulmonary and Cardiac Radiology, Dr. Jadhav is a
Musculoskeletal Radiologist and Dr. Hernandez is a Pediatric
Radiologist/Pediatric Interventional Radiologist. All of these individuals
provide excellent expertise to the program.
UTMB Pediatric Radiology has
assumed a leadership role in ultrasound of the acute abdomen, neonatal medicine,
emergency radiology, fractures and the C-spine.
The Section has one fellow
per year and 14 of these fellows have gone on to be directors of their own
programs. Residents receive a solid foundation in Pediatric Radiology so that
it allows them to practice modern, efficient pediatric radiology in a general
group.
The Section is very active
academically with 5 standard textbooks published over the years. The Section
generates 4 - 6 peer reviewed papers per year. The section is an active academic
entity with equal emphasis on cutting edge investigation and teaching practical
pediatric radiology to residents.
In summary the Pediatric
Radiology section provides a well-rounded, hands-on experience with all imaging
modalities and is in the forefront of academia.
LEONARD E. SWISCHUK, M.D.
Dr. Swischuk is the Director
of Pediatric Radiology at UTMB. He is a world renowned pediatric radiologist
with over 300 publications. He emphasizes pragmatic teaching and fosters
development of new ideas. He encourages residents and young faculty to partake
in academic endeavors and is a constant source of support.
DIANA PALACIO, M.D.
Dr. Palacio is Assistant
Professor of Radiology and Director of adult chest and cardiac radiology. She
is fellowship trained both in pulmonary radiology and pediatric radiology. This
blend lends to a very different perspective on pediatric radiology. She is very
active academically, and a very welcomed addition to Pediatric Radiology and the
UTMB Radiology Residency Program.
SIDDHARTH
JADHAV, M.D.
Dr. Jadhav also is
fellowship trained in pediatric radiology. He is well versed in many areas
including neuroradiology, musculoskeletal radiology, and body imaging. He
provides daily over views of musculoskeletal and body imaging. He is a very
welcome addition to our program and he also is very academically oriented.
