The
Section of Nuclear Medicine in the Department of Radiology at University
of Texas Medical Branch (UTMB) performs a variety of diagnostic and
therapeutic procedures. It has four new State of the art Dual head and
one Single head GE gamma cameras , one Hologic DEXA scanner and one
thyroid uptake probe. There are three nuclear medicine physicians, one
nuclear pharmacist and five nuclear medicine technologists.
The
Director of the Nuclear Medicine Section
is Fernando Cesani, M.D.The section has two other Nuclear
Medicine physicians, Martin L. Nusynowitz, M.D.,
Suppiah Balachandran, M.D.
and a nuclear pharmacist Dr.
Seham A Ali. Phd.
The
Nuclear medicine section plays a major
role in the management of oncology, cardiology, renal,
endocrinology, pediatric, gastrointestinal, and neurological disorders.
The section also has a busy daily thyroid clinic to manage
various thyroid conditions, including hyperthyroidism , thyroid nodules
and thyroid cancer patients.
MARTIN L. NUSYNOWITZ, M.D.
Dr.
Martin L. Nusynowitz is a Professor of Radiology, Internal Medicine,
and Pathology and is a faculty member of the Nuclear Medicine Section.
He is board certified in Internal Medicine, Endocrinology, and Nuclear
Medicine. He
practices General Nuclear Medicine and has special interests in
thyroidology, cardiovascular nuclear medicine, and nuclear
gastroenterology. He has
been included in the publication “Best Doctors in America” since
1994 and has numerous scientific publications. Dr.
Nusynowitz has served as President of the American College of Nuclear
Physicians and is a Life Member of the American Board of Nuclear
Medicine. He enjoys all
aspects of academic Nuclear Medicine including teaching, clinical
practice, and research, and he serves as a reviewer of scientific and
educational work for a number of publications and organizations.
SEHAM ALI, PhD.
Dr. Seham Ali is an Associate Professor of Radiology and Health Related Studies and is a faculty member of the Nuclear Medicine Section. She is board certified Nuclear Pharmacist. She has participated in many clinical research studies including evaluation of the Safety and Efficacy of New Radiopharmaceuticals (Clinical phase II and III). She is very active in teaching radiology residents, cardiology fellows, medical students, nuclear medicine technologists and nuclear medicine technology students. She is an active member in several UTMB and National committees including Radioactive Drug Research Committee, Radiation Safety Committee, Society Of Nuclear Medicine , SW Chapter, American Chemical Society, Radiation Research Society and North America Hyperthermia Group. |
